Glaucoma Research and Education
Group (GREG) sponsors an international ophthalmologist to serve as a fellow with GREG for one year. The fellow is exposed
to glaucoma research and clinical observation during the course of their one-year tenure.
The program is designed to provide ophthalmologists from abroad experience in clinical research
by exposing them to all phases of a research project. The research fellow will be responsible for study design, data
collection, preliminary analysis, and manuscript drafts. He/She will work with a principle researcher, statistician,
and research assistant to develop a final product for publication in a respected ophthalmology journal or presentation at
a meeting, such as ARVO or the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
The research fellow will not be permitted to perform surgery or treat patients in the United States, but he/she will
be exposed to clinical glaucoma by spending approximately two to three days each week in the clinic observing one of the glaucoma
specialists. In addition, the fellow will attend the ophthalmology Grand Rounds conference at the University of California,
San Francisco.
The fellow has an excellent opportunity to learn a
great deal about research in glaucoma. A self-motivated fellow will have additional opportunities to design and conduct
his/her own research projects if they are approved by the board of directors.
