Mission Statement

The Glaucoma Research and Education Group (GREG) is an independent, non-profit research and educational entity.  It focuses on clinical research, for the purpose of furthering the scientific knowledge of glaucoma to develop better solutions to prevent the loss of vision from this disease.  It also actively supports continuing medical education activities for the surrounding ophthalmic community and its international fellows. 

History

The Glaucoma Research and Education Group (GREG) was established in 1994 to continue Dr. Robert Shaffer's tradition of conducting clinical research.  Now, in it's 10th year, GREG has grown from a promising group with a thriving organization that is involved in diverse educational and training programs.

The Board of Directors and the annual Shaffer International Research Fellow decide upon different research projects to pursue.  The principle objective of GREG is to perform clinical research studies involving new diagnostic, medical, and surgical treatment modalities for glaucoma.  In addition, GREG is involved in several studies investigating the genetics of glaucoma and also collaborates with pharmaceutical companies to perform drug studies.

GREG is funded by the Glaucoma Research Foundation and private donors.
